Life is Precious Program
COVID-19 Update
The COVID pandemic has made the need for Comunilife's Life is Precious program even more vital to Latina teens at-risk of suicide and their families. Through teleconferencing we provide academic support, creative arts therapies (poetry, art, music), health and wellness activities, case management services and family support.
New activities have been added to meet the tremendous stressors facing our Latino families including expanded family services - weekly parent groups, English as a Second Language classes, and access to concrete social services. By strengthening the family we reduce the added stressors brought on by COVID-19 and help the teens navigate this scary and tumultuous time.
In September 2021, Life is Precious activities returned to in person programming with parent/family activities remaining remote.
In 2021, LIP has provided:
-
6,506 case management sessions with the teens and their families
-
927 tutoring and test prep sessions
-
248 music therapy groups and 126 art therapy sessions
-
22 Spanish language parent groups.
-
37 parent ESL classes
-
17 family creative art therapy groups
Despite the challenges 100% of the Latina teens participating in Life is Precious were promoted to the next grade or graduated from high school. Three graduating seniors entered college in September 2021
